Filing Fees

Any legal proceeding starts with paying a court filing fee, and divorce is not an exception. Though DIY divorce is the cheapest way to get divorced, it is not free. In North Carolina, the divorce filing fee is about $225. However, you should check with your local court to find out the exact amount, as court fees vary from county to county.

The filing fee is mandatory for all petitioners except those who are qualified to file as indigents. To have the fee wave, the petitioner must fill out and submit a fee waiver request form.
